#VicSRCvoices: Stand by me
It is quite extraordinary who drives and motivates each of us. We want to contribute and make a difference to the world, we want take action about the issues that we are incredibly passionate about, and we rise together to take an active approach to shaping the future of our generation. Liang Xue from Suzanne Cory High School delves into the personal side of taking action.
We have gone through some difficult times like everyone else and perhaps our working together and respecting each other's abilities, in addition to that little thing called love, helped us survive.
(Quoted from Cynthia Weil)
Another flame that lights the inspiration that drives us to take action, is our personal reason and story. For some, this personal reason and story steams from a defining moment in their lives, and causing their perspective of the world to be changed. When we are in situations that shift the way we understand and see the issues of today, we are opened up to what we have never known. By holding this newly found knowledge, being unable to forget it, it ultimately drives us to seek change. For others the light to their inspiration, is sparked from the wish of wanting to give back to the community, and do the best to they can to support those who have been in similar circumstances like themselves.
Each and every single one of us hold a different reason doing what we do. The different stories that are within each of us, are shared at loud or kept quietly within us. I have thought back to this year’s vicSRC Congress, with an incredible amount of different people from different schools, all with their own set of passions, stories and inspirations.
But where we overlap?
We overlap when we talk to each other, we share with each other what projects have been occurring, what campaigns are running, when we do not keep our passions and inspirations to ourselves. There is no one better to inspire a mass number of high school students, than us high school students. Despite the fact that we focus our passions on different areas, at the end of the day each of us want to help create a change. We can learn from each other about how to create and sustain that change. Each of us have been a part of different teams, schools, projects, campaigns and have faced different challenges. We can use each other’s learning, ideas, inspiration, and motivation to be a part of our own.
We need to step away from the trap of wanting to be the one who can run better school wide campaigns, or wanting to receive the most rewards and recognition, but focus on celebrating each other’s success and wins. In the end, we can be the catalyst of helping each other with their own pursuits for change. We can help build each other up, and stick by one another through difficult times and challenges. We are a team that will have our voices roar and be heard.
